Lizane's artistic ethos revolves around the art of seeing—an intuitive exploration of light, texture, and movement that captures the complexity and beauty of the natural world and the human condition. Whether documenting the fragile ecosystems shaped by climate change or collaborating with artisans to preserve traditional crafts, Lizane approaches every project with curiosity, respect, and intention.
Travel, Culture, and Nature Photography
As a travel and nature photographer, Lizane specializes in stories that examine the delicate balance between sustainability and the human footprint. From documenting the impact of climate change on vulnerable habitats to visually portraying cultural resilience, her work emphasizes the interconnectedness of people and their environments.
Multimedia Journalism
Lizane’s journalistic career spans over two decades, encompassing roles as a photojournalist, investigative journalist and multimedia journalist. Her commitment to storytelling is reflected in her ability to craft narratives that provoke reflection and drive change. Her transition into multimedia journalism allowed her to merge visual research with immersive storytelling, producing impactful pieces that bridge the gap between traditional media and innovative digital platforms.
Design and Sustainability
As an extension of her visual storytelling, Lizane ventured into sustainable textile design, founding Māya, a studio dedicated to eco-conscious production. Collaborating with artisans in India and Southeast Asia, she employs natural dyes and organic materials to create textiles that celebrate heritage craftsmanship while addressing contemporary environmental concerns. Each piece is designed not just as a product but as a narrative—one that tells a story of sustainability, cultural preservation, and creative integrity.
A Life of Travel and Adventure
Over the past 27 years, Lizane has lived and worked in over 65 countries, constantly seeking inspiration from the landscapes and communities she encounters. From photographing remote Arctic landscapes to documenting traditional tea cultures in Asia, her work is a testament to her unyielding curiosity and dedication to storytelling.
Louw's favorite journeys include textile and tea expeditions in India, batik explorations in Malaysia, Ikat expeditions in Indonesia, roadtrips in Iceland and documenting marine conservation efforts in Taiwan. Lizane continues to split her time between Berlin and international locations, weaving her life of adventure into her work.
